The 13th Congressional District includes the Fordham Manor section of The Bronx, which is itself often considered part of Bedford Park. Located across Webster Avenue from Fordham University and north of Fordham Road, Fordham Manor is a relatively close commute from Grand Central Station from the Metro North Fordham station on both the Harlem and New Haven Lines. Bounded by Bedford Park Avenue to the north, Webster Avenue to the East, Fordham Road on the south and Grand Concourse on the west, Fordham Manor is a relatively quiet section of the 13th District and is, unlike most of the District, not crossed by any major motor vehicle thoroughfare.
The primary concerns of the Fordham Manor neighborhood are access to quality education and job training, support for access to affordable housing, as well as ensuring continuing access to public transportation. Fordham Manor is reasonably serviced by cross Bronx Bus service connecting the community to the D train and the Fordham and Botanical Garden Metro North stations. Fordham Manor, like the rest of the 13th District, is densely populated and has a substantial senior population, making a viable Social Security and Medicare system a priority for Mr. Fenstermaker. In addition, ensuring continued frequent service on the Metro North to Grand Central station and frequent D train service is also vital to the community’s well-being.
