The 13th Congressional District includes the Bedford Park section of The Bronx. Home to Lehman College and two of New York City’s specialized high schools, the High School of American Studies and the Bronx High School of Science, as well as the Clinton DeWitt High School, Bedford Park is a community of single-parent homes, working families, and many seniors, as well as a number of students at both Lehman College and Fordham University. Bounded by the Mosholu Parkway to the north, Webster Avenue to the east, Fordham Road on the south and Goulden Avenue on the west, Bedford Park is serviced by the 4 and D trains and by the Williams Bridge, Botanical Garden and Fordham Metro North Stations.
Among the concerns of Bedford Park are access to quality education and job training, support for access to affordable housing, as well as ensuring continued access to reliable public transportation. Bedford Park is reasonably serviced by cross Bronx Bus service connecting the community to the 1 train and the Fordham and Botanical Garden Metro North stations. In addition, Bedford Park has 4 and D train stations located in the community. Like the rest of the 13th District, Bedford Park is densely populated and has a substantial senior population, making a viable Social Security and Medicare system a priority for Mr. Fenstermaker. In addition, ensuring continued frequent service on Metro North to Grand Central station and ample D and 4 train service is also vital to the community’s well-being.
